welcome to my furniture design/build blog

Thanks for visiting studio mobilier, the furniture maker’s studio!

A few years ago I discovered a passion for furniture design and craftsmanship. I have taught myself – from books, mentors, and a lot of doing – and along the way I have discovered an unmatched depth of possibility and wonder. Furniture making is – like painting or singing – an art of aesthetics, knowledge, and control of the body. But I find furniture making to be special among the arts, because it is explicitly a conversation between the maker and the user.

Never is this more apparent than when I take on a custom commission. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with fascinating clients, and the finished product is as much an expression of their tastes, history, and aspirations, as it is an expression of my own creativity. In fact, I have discovered that my own growth as a woodworker is interwoven with the growth of my clients. With each new piece we create a life-long bond, not only with each other, but with a time and place, and a monument that will stand for generations.

This Website is where I record my adventure in furniture making. You can see pictures of my work in the Gallery, or check my blog, where I post on topics of interest to other professionals, or anybody who wants to learn more about the process of furniture making and design. The menu is at the top of the page.

If you want to contact me for any reason: a comment, question, or a request for a custom commission, please use the form below. I won’t share your information.
